For the upcoming COP26 Conference in Glasgow (Oct. 31 - Nov. 12), the American Energy Society will be releasing "500 Global Sustainability Thought Leaders," a report and dataset of the top sustainability thought leaders that experts follow.
Over the last 200 years, virtually every sector of society has changed for the better. Per capita living standards have risen to unprecedented levels, and the benefits of modern life are even greater when compared with historical conditions. The transformation of modern life could not have happened without greater access to affordable energy, and particularly fossil fuels.
But the world's voracious appetite for energy has had harmful consequences. Human activities and the burning of fossil fuels have increased the concentration of greenhouse gases in Earth's atmosphere, warming the planet.
The topic of sustainability is confusing and crowded with competing opinion. The American Energy Society offers clarity by filtering out the noise. In an age of information overload, to recognize true thought-leadership this issue of Energy Today (and the forthcoming report) honors "action over words."
Note: You will need to be a Member of AES to receive the report. Contact us for more information.
